Data Engineer
Build data pipelines for sensor data from industrial equipment, handling real-time processing of millions of data points from PLCs and monitoring systems.
About the Role
We process massive volumes of time-series data from industrial facilities across North America. Our data pipelines handle millions of sensor readings daily from manufacturing equipment, refineries, and energy plants, feeding AI models that predict failures and optimize operations.
You'll design data lakes and streaming architectures for predictive maintenance algorithms that analyze vibration data, temperature readings, pressure measurements, and process parameters. Our data must be processed with sub-second latency to support real-time operational decisions in critical industrial environments.
Our data sources include PLCs, SCADA systems, vibration sensors, temperature monitors, and process control systems. You'll work with both streaming data for real-time alerts and historical data for machine learning model training and validation.
This role requires expertise in both modern big data technologies and understanding of industrial data formats, protocols, and the unique challenges of processing sensor data in manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement data pipelines for industrial sensor data
- Build real-time streaming architectures for operational alerts
- Optimize time-series data storage and retrieval for AI model training
- Integrate with industrial data sources (PLCs, SCADA, historians)
- Ensure data quality and reliability for mission-critical applications
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in data engineering with focus on time-series data
- Expert proficiency in Python, SQL, and distributed data processing
- Experience with streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, Pulsar)
- Strong background in time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, Prometheus)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial historian systems (OSIsoft PI, GE Proficy)
- Knowledge of signal processing and vibration analysis
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment monitoring
- Previous work in energy, manufacturing, or process industries
- Cloud data engineering certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Technologies You'll Work With
- Time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, Prometheus, ClickHouse)
- Streaming platforms (Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Azure Event Hubs)
- Big data processing (Apache Spark, Flink, Storm)
- Cloud data services (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery)
- Industrial protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus, DNP3, MQTT)
- Python data stack (Pandas, NumPy, Dask, Apache Airflow)
